Guns n Roses (1985) are a hard rock band. They played their music worldwide from 1985 still to this day. They released their first EP in 1986 which gave them a contract with Geffen. Guns n Roses didn’t start to become famous until 1988 when MTV started to play ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’. After this, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and the album became number 1 on the charts. Soon enough, Guns n Roses became one of the biggest bands in the world. Long awaited, the band started to work on their new album, but after all year working hard, new ideas and new band members their new album had tuned into two. During this process, they gained a new band member on the keyboards and replaced the drummer Alder with Matt Sorum as the rest of the band claimed that Alder’s drug addiction caused him to play poorly. Guns n Roses had created art in their new album with glimpses of Elton John’s style, trumpet solos, ten minute guitar solos and heartfelt written lyrics.
In 1991, Nirvana overtook Guns n Roses with their new album ‘Nevermind’ with ‘Smells Like a Teen Spirit’ becoming number one on the charts. Rose (lead singer of Guns n Roses) dealt with this by dictating at their concerts. This then became a trend among the other bands as it engaged the audience well. Still to this day, bands and musicians dictate and engage the audience in all sorts of forms at concerts and gigs as apart of the growing trend from bands like Guns n Roses.
Guns n Roses put forward a new art form of guitar solos, meaningful lyrics and crossing genres of music styles. Musicians today are picking this trend up again with ten minute long guitar and trumpet solos. A prime example of this art is shown in Tash Sultana’s ‘blackbird’. Tash Sultana is a female musicians who in today’s world, is very influential and has major impacts on younger women through her art in music. Her new album ‘Flow State’ has reached top charts as she has created new cross genres and put her art forward, to then watch it become more and more loved and aspired by.
Crossing genres is a skill in which only some can successfully do and still make their music have a heavy influence in the music industry. Guns n Roses crossed psychedelic rock with hard rock, surf rock and death metal rock. They were able to make their music hit the top of most charts and become one of the most known and best bands in history.
