The band Queen originally formed with four talented musicians; Freddie Mercury (lead singer), Roger Taylor (drummer), John Deacon (bass guitarist) and Brian May (lead guitarist). These four men had extreme talent in their own musical instruments, so when they came together and played music, it was something that no one had seen before. Queen was soon to be known as the best band in the world since 1970.
They started in London with their taste purely hard, progressive and metal rock. They slowly produced ‘radio friendly’ and pop rock. They also began to cross genres with rock, pop and opera. A song in particular in which genres have been majorly crossed is ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
‘Bohemian Rhapsody crosses genres between opera, rock and pop. The lyrics that Freddie Mercury wrote are deeply meaningful to him, his culture, his sexuality and acceptance into the musical world, the normal world and his cultural/religious family.
Queen had many record producers to begin with, but none of them would satisfy the band with what they aspired to do with their careers. After they struggled with finding a suitable producer, Freddie Mercury decided to continue his career in a solo manner. He discovered many new styles of music, but decided four years later that he was the best musician he could be when he was with the other band band members.
Queen succeeded in many aspects including fame, new music, fans and most importantly, acceptance and satisfaction within themselves. Many young artists in today’s world look up to Queen and aspire to have similar attributes.
